Geography with Workbooks from Timberdoodle

As Eclectic Unschoolers, for our homeschool the answer is a resounding, Yes!

Just because it’s the “old way” it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s broken. My son enjoys independent work, memory work, and roadschooling, so good Workbooks are always a part of my homeschool arsenal. Some of my favorites are by Evan-Moor and it’s SO simple for me to order them (with my other supplies) from Timberdoodle! First, yes, it’s Grade 6. I know, I know, my kid is technically a 3rd Grader. But when you homeschool you provide materials better suited for your child’s level and my kid primarily uses middle school materials. Need to level down? Skill Sharpeners Geography starts at Pre-K.

Inside of those Essential Elements you’ll find studies on weather systems, population, countries, land formation, cultures, world heritage sites and more. I really love that my son can do a deep study on topics he already knows a lot about all within a single workbook. There’s a focus on relevant Reading, Visual Literacy, Vocabulary, Hands-on Activity, and Real Life Application of the topic.

One of my son’s favorite lessons was on the Euro under the subtopic of Human Systems. We were just traveling in Europe and local currency became an issue when I forgot to change our US Dollars at the airport. We needed Euros for small things around Madrid and eventually found an ATM to get money. Next we needed Pounds for the United Kingdom. Being able to study the monetary systems of different countries in our Skill Sharpeners Geography book provided a different perspective on our international travels.

Just head to their website and download the companion Teacher’s Guide (There is a QR code in the front of the workbook) for Sample Pacing Plans, Graphic Organizers, Discussion Questions, and Field Trip Ideas to go with each section. These resources are there to help you but you can also use this 140 page workbook however you wish whenever you need an additional supplement or an entire Geography study – it’s up to you.
