Finding Our Math Groove with Mrs. Peters’ Math Live

Disclaimer: I was compensated for my time in exchange for my honest review. Opinions and viewpoints are my own.

Math in the middle and high school years (or with advanced learners of any age) can feel like a big leap—especially when you’re looking for something that’s both academically solid and supportive for homeschoolers. When it comes to math I’ve reviewed more than most which is what happens when your youngest son is gifted and a math fanatic. Well let us introduce you to something special: Mrs. Peters’ Math Live, Online Math Classes for grades 6-12!

Spoiler: We’re big fans. And my mathy kid gives it his seal of approval.

A Real Teacher. Real Time. Real Results.

There’s something comforting about a math class that meets live with a real teacher leading the way. Mrs. Peters teaches in real time, working through problems step by step—just like the good old-fashioned classroom setup, but designed beautifully for homeschoolers. And let me be clear—this is not a “watch it whenever you get around to it” kind of class. It’s structured, consistent, and interactive, which is just the kind of math intensity my son loves. Your learner will get to engage fully with a live instructor, three times a week for a year and by the end of the class would have received a great standards based education in math and gained a new favorite teacher… that’s NOT you! A win is a win!

Not Just Rigor—It’s Relational

Mrs. Peters brings the perfect mix of warmth and professionalism. She knows her stuff (25+ years of teaching will do that!), but what really stood out to me was how she connects with about the students she teaches. She reached out to me personally to let know that Cash sent her a message about trouble with submitting an assignment and made sure to go back to critique and grade work from last fall. Who does that? A teacher who really loves teaching and homeschooling families, that’s who.

Canvas Platform: Clean, Organized, and Actually Doable

Mrs. Peters’ Math Live, Online Math Classes for grades 6-12 is hosted on Canvas which we’ve used in the past for other online courses. Canvas is an online learning management system that hosts all types of instructional courses and material, is a breeze for both parent and student. Everything your student needs—videos, tests, assignments, the chat, and other resources including a textbook for reference—is right there on the Canvas dashboard. Even if you’re having trouble figuring out how to get started Mrs. Peters is quick to answer questions and provide video walks throughs for everything. Once we were set up, it was easy for my son to manage his work without constant check-ins from me.

More Than Numbers

We got experience Math 6 with Mrs. Peters. Math 6 means middle school and new concepts, and this course doesn’t shy away from the challenge—but it also doesn’t leave kids in the dust. The pacing is steady, with time built in for review and practice. There’s also a surprising amount of creativity baked in—my son loved the logic puzzles and games mixed in with the lesson material. It gave him a way to engage with math in a deeper, more enjoyable way.

I also really appreciated that Mrs. Peters includes expectations for both students and parents. That accountability goes a long way toward helping everyone stay on track. At the beginning of the course you’re given a parent contract that outlines expectations for both you and your child. Even though Mrs. Peters handles assignments, communication, and grading, you should still expect to be an active parent partner in the process.

What’s Covered?

This class moves through Math 6 topics in a logical, well-sequenced way:

• Unit 1 – Fractions

• Unit 2 – Ratios and Proportional Relationships

• Unit 3 – Operations of Decimals

• Unit 4 – Rational Numbers

• Unit 5 – Expressions and Equations

• Unit 6 – Inequalities

• Unit 7 – Geometry

• Unit 8 – Data Displays

The course costs $750 for the full school year and is all inclusive. You can sign your student up for Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Consumer Math, or Geometry. Unlike some courses the price does not increase with the level of the class.

Homework, Replays, and Flexibility (Yes, Please)

During the live class, students work through sample problems together—such a great way to reinforce the lesson. Homework is assigned through Canvas and turned in there too, which keeps everything streamlined and in one place. And if your child misses a class? Every session is recorded for replay. No stress.

Is It a Fit for Your Family?

This Math 6 class from Mrs. Peters would be a great match if your kiddo:

• Needs or wants the live class experience

• Enjoys interaction with other students and the instructor

• Is ready for a solid, high quality math course

I needed more time with this one and wish we weren’t just reviewing her course. Cash went back to watch the recorded lessons and even tried to catch up to 2nd semester by completing previously assigned work. You’ll want to position yourself to start her class at the beginning in fall to get the full benefits of her lessons and to build community with the other students in class. He’s doing pretty good, even with the late start, simply because everything is SO thorough!

Honestly, even if your child has some math anxiety, Mrs. Peters’ calm and encouraging approach helps build confidence and her teaching style appeals to all types of learners.
