Can your kids dance? No?
But do they still like to try? Yes?
I’ve got the perfect, cool thing to show you! Cash and I tried out YouDance.com – a membership that offers simple to follow dance classes in a number of dance genres including ballet, hip hop, jazz, contemporary, clogging, and preschool movement classes. For homeschoolers it’s perfect for physical education or as an extracurricular, and for other kids, it’s a cool class to take outside of school. YouDance.com is perfect for all ages and to access the courses all you need is a device. These aren’t Social Media Dances taught to iffy lyrics – it’s educational curriculum that can be used by the whole family.

YouDance.com was created by an actual homeschool mom and former homeschooled kid. The program was designed for kids 3 – 18 and includes instruction from a beginner to advanced levels. However parents, don’t let the age range stop you – I had a lot of fun and got some exercise doing these classes with my 9 yr old. Daddy and brother did too.
Getting YouDance.com is pretty simple – head to their website at www.YouDance.com and take a look at their membership which includes access to all of their classes taught by professional instructors. You can pay monthly, yearly, or one price for lifetime access. Log in to your classes anytime from your preferred device and from anywhere using your unique ID and passcode. All lessons are self paced and prerecorded. That’s it. You can choose whatever classes you like and even skip levels if you desire. All of the classes are broken into small digestible pieces and include practice before going on to a new concept. At the end of a lesson you’ll even get a virtual quiz that will review key terms and steps from that week’s dance work.
How we used YouDance.com
Cash is brilliant in a lot of areas but dancing isn’t one of them yet. However he loves to try and move his body to the music. I knew that YouDance would be a great introduction to “figuring it out” without anyone trying to coach him in person. You can take YouDance.com lessons wherever and even though Cash’s room is tiny it was still the perfect size to move in as long as the cat didn’t get in the way. This month’s challenge was to take a class outside and all he needed was his IPad and a tree to lean it against to practice his new moves. With YouDance.com you don’t need a huge dance studio to take classes, just a way to access your on demand lesson and a few square feet to move.
Cash chose to start off his dance classes with Hip Hop. He’s at that age where he instinctively wants to look cool in front of the young ladies and Daddy was bragging that he could get the girls with his dancing back in his day. Personally, I suggested he try ballet but the eye roll was apparent – Daddy is definitely cooler than Mama. He cleared a spot in his room of toys and got to work. No need for special clothes or equipment- he just needed space to dance. I sat quietly in the corner of the room in case he needed help but the site navigation was smooth and intuitive. We tend to use our devices to cast our device screens to our televisions and Cash did the same with YouDance.com in order to see the moves better. When you finish a section just select “Complete and continue “ at the bottom of the page to move on to the next part of your course. There are no ads and no internet trolls – it’s just your kid and their lessons.
After watching Break Dancing during the Olympics, Cash jumped ahead in his Hip Hop class to try a few of those medal winning moves. Our entire family laughed until we cried as we each tried it out for ourselves and realized it’s a lot harder than it looks. We had a ton of fun trying to do the “Coffee Grinder” but there will be no medals given out in the Banks Household! My family is in love with YouDance and I’ve been catching Cash practicing certain moves to get better. As a former dancer (this was a long time ago y’all) I think YouDance.com is a great way to introduce a student to the world of dance or just help a kid feel more comfortable and confident in their own skin. I wish this was around when I was a kid and spending tons of time and money on studio lessons!
